Supporters of a constitutional amendment to cap property tax growth rates are now seeking your signatures. Matthew Monforton, Bozeman attorney, former state legislator and one of the leading proponents of the CI-121 ballot initiative, discusses why their group feels this will help alleviate a growing property tax burden. He also addresses some of the arguments from those opposing this initiative and answers some caller-questions concerning the potential impact it would have across Montana.
Property taxes are used locally. The surplus is coming from income taxes, federal programs, and assorted fees charged by the state government. Property taxes aren’t causing the general fund surplus.
