Counties Seek AG Opinion on Property Tax Mill Levy
Montana property values have risen dramatically. Local city and county governments are automatically required to lower their mill levies – their taxing authority – to reflect a limit on the rising cost of government. Will the state be required to follow suit? That’s what some county officials are asking Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen. Beaverhead County Commissioner Mike McGinley and MACo Executive Director Eric Bryson will join us to give more details on the issue and how this could wind up costing state residential property owners an additional $70-plus million dollars.
