The Flathead Warming Center has been a busy place since it opened in 2018. Busy serving, and busy expanding. The center is a low barrier shelter for the population’s homeless, which has grown in proportion with the pandemic and Montana’s dramatic rise in home prices. The warming center found itself defending it’s services before the Kalispell City Council, which is considering amending or revoking the center’s conditional use permit in response to some neighbors complaints.
Are those complaints justified? What steps has the center taken to address concerns? Is the city prepared to replace those services? Click on the podcast to hear Flathead Warming Center co-founder and executive director Tonya Horn update us on how the community is coping with homelessness.
