Pyramid Mountain Lumber has been a staple in Western Montana’s economy for 75 years. It’s weathered numerous storms in that time, but has recently announced its closure amidst the challenges with today’s inflation and housing-deprived labor market. Company President Todd Johnson, whose family is one of the original owners, and Controller Wendy Dalrymple, join host Tom Schultz to discuss the decision and conditions leading to closure, and what’s the future plan for the mill and its employees.
I worked at a mill in Livingston. Wages are low. Work tempo is very high. Mill workers busting their butts. And then going to McDonalds for lunch, and being served by teenagers making more money then they are at the lumber mill.
Combine that with the commies at the USFS making permits terribly complicated to attain.
Once the permits are acquired the leftist tree-hugger nut-jobs file an injunction. And stop logging operations for years in court battles. Or they vandalize the logging equipment in the woods.
Decades of stagnant wages. Combined with ZERO retaliation against the left wing nut jobs who plague the operations at every level. Has consequences.
When your employees can’t afford to rent or buy in the town you operate a lumber mill. IT IS YOUR PROBLEM!!!!!!
