Supporters Discuss Merits of Montana Primary Election Reform

Two constitutional initiatives, CI-126 and CI-127, would change Montana’s Primary Elections from a semi-open primary where the winning vote-getter from the qualifying major parties moves on to the general election, to one where the top four vote getters, regardless of party affiliation, would qualify for the general election. CI-126 would allow for that, while the companion piece, CI-127, would require that a winning candidate in the general election receive more than 50% of the vote

That’s a substantial change in the way Montana elects its representatives. The initiatives are backed by Montanans for Election Reform, and former legislators Rob Cook and Frank Garner join the program to discuss the details and the merits of their proposal.
